Unlike paintings, my photographs are not really
interpretations of the landscape. They are
records of nature made at carefully planned and
selected times and places, when light and the
tools of large format photography can best
capture the natural beauty of the subject. More
than technical expertise, my success depends on
knowing where to be and when to be there. Wind
is the greatest challenge for large-format
photography, because exposures are normally
measured in seconds rather than fractions of a
second. As a result, most of my photographs are
made in the early morning or late evening, when
winds are light or the air is still. For macro
photography, winds must be calm because I use
only natural light. |
